DOST-SEI Announced The Qualifiers for the 2023 Undergraduate Scholarship Programs. A total of 9,776 incoming college freshmen
have successfully qualified as S&T scholars.
The DOST-SEI has announced the long-awaited results of the highly competitive science and technology scholarship examination. This announcement introduces a new group of senior high school students who will become S&T scholars as they enter college. Among the 79,585 examinees who took the national qualifying exam on March 18 to 19, 2023, 9,776 students successfully qualified for the 2023 DOST-SEI Undergraduate S&T Scholarship Program. These scholars will begin enjoying the benefits of their scholarship in the first semester of the academic year 2023-2024.
The pen-and-paper qualifying examination for the 2023 DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Program was conducted in 241 testing centers across the country, marking the resumption of face-to-face exams after a three-year pause due to the pandemic. Data analytics was used to identify the qualifiers during this period. Out of the total number of passers, 5,561 qualified for the RA 7687 Scholarship Program for academically talented students from economically disadvantaged families, while 4,215 qualified under the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program. Additionally, 1,224 potential qualifiers are still under consideration, pending revalidation of requirements. Qualifiers will receive their Notice of Award, and potential qualifiers will be advised on resubmitting requirements. An orientation on S&T Scholarship Policies and Procedures will be held for the qualifiers and their parents/legal guardians. Dr. Josette T. Biyo, DOST-SEI Director, expressed that the announcement of the exam results signifies the start of an empowering chapter for the qualifiers to pursue their dreams and aspirations in S&T careers.
Upon completion of their degree programs, scholars under RA 7687 and Merit programs shall be working in their fields of specialization in the country, whether in the public or private sector, for a period equivalent to the length of years in which they enjoyed the scholarship.

Opportunities Ahead
Scholarship qualifiers will receive numerous benefits throughout their S&T degree program, including a monthly stipend, tuition fee subsidy, learning materials/connectivity allowance, clothing allowance, travel fare, thesis and graduation allowances, and accident insurance. Qualifiers must pursue a BS degree program in priority fields at recognized universities or colleges. The qualifying exam success signifies their potential in S&T and opens doors to limitless opportunities. Dr. Biyo emphasized that the program’s support will enable scholars to explore scientific interests, pursue higher education, and become the future generation of scientists, technologists, innovators, and problem solvers.Future Obligations of Scholars
